The 100 Greatest Movie Moments

73. Karaoke From Hell

Film: Blue Velvet, 1986
Director: David Lynch

On it's own, the altered reality of lip-synching to a song is already a little creepy. Put the practice into a David Lynch movie alone with a severed ear, a psychotic loyalty to Pabst Blue Ribbon, and brutal, ritualized sado-sex, and you'll be grinding your teeth to their pulp by the time a whacked-out Dean Stockwell lip-synchs Roy Orbison's pop hit "In Dreams." Grand Guignol seems subtly nuanced in comparison.
